Japanese Design, Old and New

12:50 AM

First the New

Do you know the Japanese label Comme des Garcons?

It's really quirky and innovative - maybe what a lot of people think of when they imagine Japanese fashion.

The look is generally very dark though, so I don't wear it very much.

I love the heart-face logo anyway, I think it looks really cute on tops.

So, when I watched the Yamato Nadeshiko drama, I saw the best idea ever for pair t-shirts.

When it was Mr Miruku's birthday this month, I decided to copy that idea.

This was my packet, colour coded so I wouldn't mix them up.

I got the red print for me and the black print for him.

So cute!

I took the pictures after I gave the other one to him and we still haven't had a chance to wear them together.

When we do, I'll post some pics - hopefully we look cute together!

What do you guys think of couple items?

Sometimes I see couples wearing fully coordinated outfits - that seems like too much to me.

But maybe a t-shirt or accessory is ok?

In this case I wanted the t-shirt for myself anyway so I didn't consider it a waste of money!

As for old design, take a look at this place: Edomura

Edomura is in Tochigi-ken and my coworker suggested that I take my family there.

Seeing as how they wont have a chance to go to Kyoto or Nara, I thought this would be a good introduction to Japanese culture.

What do you think - does it look interesting?

  2. AAaaaa-www I'm sure you both will look adorable! haha

I don't specially like CdG, but I really want the heart-face t-shirt, this one with the heart cut by half and placed at the bottom of the t-shirt. I saw Mao wearing it once in a live and fell in love! (with the t-shirt and him! haha).

That Edomura thing sounds interesting! I'll have to take note and go next time I'm in Japan! (I hope it's soon ;^;)

  4. I love Comme des Garcons~ There was a collaboration with H&M last year, wasn't there? I almost bought one of the dresses, and now I regret not buying it. =C

I also like the idea of couples matching their outfits or wearing one identical item, but everything is usually too much. It's cute either way, though~ :3

  8. I personally don't like couple shirts. It's really silly.

I've been to Edomura! It was a pretty nice place. I think if you don't take it too seriously, it's good...It's sort of like an Edo-theme park. I think it would be a nice substitute for Kyoto and Nara.

  9. I like couple items, especially I think accessories are nice. I would never be able to get a guy to wear matching shirts, but I think its cool to wear outfits with the same theme or color but different clothing/styling.

Edomura is a place I still have on my to do list, I think you should go and do a write up on it!

  13. Sasa - I think this print is quite different to most CdG stuff, it's a lot more wearable. Who's Mao? That style sounds good!

  17. Samispoon - Well these t-shirts are unisex so you could get one each. Then slowly work your way up to wearing them together!

But they're not hard rock or anything, pretty easy to listen to, and they're all such fun guys!
You should look for them on youtube and see some videos c:
