Hello Dolly

12:50 AM

Jumping on the bandwagon.

So, Milk Tea is now one month old.

That's about the length of time that I been reading blogs on Japanese fashion and beauty.

Although I was interested in those things before, now I find myself inspired by so many bloggers and trying things I never touched before.

Tsubasa Masuwaka has a lot of fans online and off. The former Popteen model's range of cosmetics have received so many positive reviews that I was persuaded to try some myself.

Today's product: Deep Black Liquid Eyeliner.

I consider myself a casual make-up wearer.

I wear foundation everyday and often wear lip gloss but everything else is sporadic.

Therefore, what I look for in a product is easy of use and value for money.

When it comes to eyeliner, it's a long time since I have used liquid.

I usually use pencil - black on top, white on the bottom.

Worth the money?

My main gripe with liquid eyeliner is that they can get messy and are harder to remove.

If you make a mistake it's more noticeable and harder to blend into eye shadow.

The packaging has won a lot of praise.

You can't argue that the Dolly Wink range aren't slick products.

The pattern is retro-cute and unobtrusive.

The outside is not going to get dull or worn away, it's easily wiped clean.

If I invest in expensive make-up, I want to be able to show it off with pride.

The pen is very small, the perfect size for getting around your massive false eyelashes!

Of course, the most important part is the applicator.

All liquid eyeliners that I had used before were applied with a wand.

I always found this too delicate to do properly. I don't have big hands, but painting it on required a lot of finesse.

I have never seen anything like the Dolly Wink pen-style before.

This is (apparently) a spidol type applicator.

The brush section is not only long, but very stiff.

It's rigidness is the most important aspect.

That means that the strands don't stray as you are drawing your lines.

It remains neat and controlled the whole time.

It also allows you to lean heavily on the pen. Thus, for a nervous user like myself, it removes the trembley hands cause by a fear of stabbing yourself in the eye.

Argh! No make-up!

I think any cheap brand can make a good thick line on your eye.

Dolly Wink's advantage is that you can make a thin line just as easily.

Thus, you can carefully control exactly the shape and depth that you want to draw.

The mixture is nice and light, easy to build up.

I suppose most people will use this for gal-style make up.

However, I think it's useful to know that it works just as well for a simple, subtle look.

That way it's suitable for work-wear or formal occasions.

In my book, that's a sign of quality.

A quick splash of mascara...which is getting lumpy. Suggestions for a new one?

All in all, two thumbs way up for this product.

I'm totally converted, although I wish there was a white eyeliner from the same range.

I can't really speak for the longevity of it though.

After I did this test, I tried to put on false lashes for the first time. There was no way the eyeliner could survive.

What a horror show.

I'll post about that semi-disaster soon!

  2. I am so tempted to buy this online and give it a go too. I currently use a very similar eyeliner pen by Shu Uemura which is actually refillable...so might just rebuy that instead!

  6. I use both pencil and liquid liner when I do my makeup haha! I've tried both the wand and the pen type like this.

I would be interested in trying this product in the future (when I run out of my current liquid liner) Thank you for doing the review!

  10. Winnie - Well, at the end of the day I think people only buy this for the brand name. I mean, it's good but I'd seriously be tempted by something refillable!

  16. Shop N' Chomp - I guess eyeliner is all about trial and error. At least the pen is so thin that mistakes aren't very noticeable, haha!
