Sakura Sake

12:50 AM

Sakura season is coming to an end in Japan.

Here in Tohoku, the weather is milder than the rest of Japan.

So, the cherry blossoms bloom later but last longer.

I heard that Aomori prefecture has the most beautiful sakura, but I think the ones in Sendai are nice too.

They won't last much longer but I was able to do hanami with my friends.

"Hana" means flower and "mi" comes from the verb "to see/watch" - that's basically what it is.

Watching flowers with your friends - although alcohol tends to be more popular than sakura!

Junior workers are often sent with blue mats to reserve the best spots for their company hanami.

When the wind blows the blossoms fall like snow. Such a pretty snow!

I think it would be wonderful to have a wedding under a bower of sakura. Or a party to celebrate the birth of a child. The short life of the blossom is supposed to make us consider the fleeting nature of our own existence..

Even though I saw cherry blossoms in my home country, the atmosphere of hanami is unique to Japan.

I think most people don't really pay too much attention to the flowers around them.

Even in the middle of the city, usually there are some blossoms tucked away somewhere.

This Spring, please find all the flowers you can!

  1. Ooh, I've heard of hanami. It sounds like such a fun activity to do with friends! Sadly, I don't believe I've seen cherry blossoms irl. =\ Someday. If I may, where is home for you? :)

  2. Shop N' Chomp - well, since you ask, I'm from Ireland. It seems it's impossible to be a "mystery blogger"! Although hanami is traditionally for cherry blossoms, I don't see why you can't use any flowers that you like.

  3. Ah I would love to do Hanami one day. Cherry Blossom has always been one of my favourites and I've got to admit, it stemmed from watching anime when I was younger, I used to think they were like candy floss on trees!

  4. Yeah, it always looks extra sweet in anime! Actually, 2 days ago I ate candy floss while looking at sakura. Talk about pink overload!
