Tokyo Fashion's Night Out 2012

11:05 PM

To begin: pancakes with Greek yoghurt

FNO was aaaaaages ago, but better late than never! And Vogue Fashion's Night Out Tokyo 2012 was exceptionally good fun. It was my third year in a row attending the fashion/freebie extravaganza and definitely the best one yet. I suppose everyone's FNO is different because there are countless parties and events to visit, to a certain extent you just have to hope that you pick the right one. The first year I attended I was only developing an interest in fashion and didn't know Tokyo that well. The second year was post-quake and a duller, more sombre affair. I know Tokyo (and the word) were trying to be respectful, but I had travelled down from Sendai to escape all that for a while. And for the free drinks...

Token shot of Omotesando Hills

As usual the night kicked off in Omotesando Hills with a star studded ceremony and fashion show. I decided I had seen enough in previous years so skipped it. There's only so much time I can spend looking at the top of Tominaga Ai's or Verbal's head. I arrived later, just in time to ogle JUNO (JYJ Junsu's brother) taking part in a photo shoot. He's soooo tall and dreamy! Then I scavenged all of the shops for free food and drinks.

Freebie: mini cake selection

Most popular photo op of the night: bunny girls outside Laforet Harajuku

After wandering through some side-streets trying to find flashing rings that a lot of people seemed to have (finally found them at the Runway Channel pop-up store) we ended up at Laforet. It's probably my favourite place to shop and that night was no exception. It's always more fun to try on clothes after a couple of drinks but I was wary of regretting it the next day. So I stuck to accessories, including some I had been after for a few months (see below). Also, if you spent over X amount of money, you could get some tokens to use in the bunny girls gacha machine outside!

Other than Laforet, my pick of the night was Marella. We hadn't made an advance booking so we had to queue for about 10 minutes. Then we had a "photo shoot" with a model and Marella's new pink leopard print range. You could model with one item and the longest wait was for the (beautiful) trench coat. It would have clashed awfully with my dress though, so we went for the bag and stole and therefore could skip the line. Then we had champagne as we waited for the picture to be developed. I could get used to the model life! As for shopping and freebies, here is the haul!
